ROPE LENGTH: although it is 40m of climbing, a 70m rope will get you back to the ground, BUT make sure to tie a good backup knot on the belayer’s side, and be prepared for them to have to clean the first bolt. It’s a real rope stretcher, but it works fine thanks to the sloping ground.

Clip and extend the first bolt of the 5.10 finish, and continue up the easy right-leaning ramp to a crack. Climb the crack to fun juggy mantels and through a series of no hands rests on large hollow flakes. Three bolts protect the fun pocketed crux of the pitch. Easier climbing above is protected by gear up to the roof. The final slab above at the apex of the wall protects with one more bolt. Belay on a cam (0.3-0.5) and one bolt.

The Upsides has two pitches of exciting and thoughtful slab climbing on exceptional rock. This is currently the easiest rap route from the summit via two 35 meter rappels. The first pitch was bolted conservatively, though old school slab masters will find it to be well-protected. This route is certainly sustained and spicy friction slab at its finest!

P1: (5.11c PG, 35m)

Start at the far right of the wall just under a ledge. Climb up to the ledge and clip the first bolt about 25 feet up. From here, follow four more bolts through thoughtful, techy movement. Execute a few well-protected, desperate moves before gaining a no hands rest on a little ledge (optional, poor 0.3 or 0.4). From here, follow up four more spaced out bolts through improbable and exciting moves to a crescendo just under the belay ledge. This last half of the pitch would likely be a difficult and committing onsight.

P2: (5.10b, 35m)

From the anchor ledge, follow bolts and intermittent gear to the blocky mini-overhang directly above. Lots of fun underclings and an easier slab make this an enjoyable pitch. Save a 0.75 for the mini-overhang, avoid suspect rock by climbing through on the left side, and belay on a two bolt anchor.

Start near the left end of the wall under a large dihedral high up and a big hollow flake near the ground. Follow three tightly spaced bolts that protect the guillotine flake and the very fun crux moves through it. Then climb straight up easier terrain protecting with two bolts and intermittent gear before finishing in the fun, easy dihedral.

Start under a broken hole in the face about 30 feet downhill (climber’s left) of

Marmots Ate My Neighbors

. Climb up through the hole clipping the first bolt above it (there is optional gear in the hole below the first bolt), then climb up the face, clipping 2 more bolts (crux). Continue up discontinuous cracks to a small overlap about halfway up the route. Hand traverse left and up around the overlap, using the hand-sized crack on the left for gear (currently slightly dirty, but should clean up). Continue up and to the right following a dike feature, using small gear in the spaced horizontal cracks for pro. Bypass the roof above by climbing to the right of it on big jugs, and clip one more bolt before the anchor.

Start on a blank slab just right of a low first bolt. Step, press, and undercling your way up to a stance below the fourth bolt that protects the decided crux very well but is awkwardly placed (broken hold lead to different beta). The crux will likely be harder for shorter climbers. Pull the quick sequence to gain another stance below second, tricky little section before cruising to the roof (0.4) and up to another slab (0.3).

Above the roof, the route steps a tiny bit left to avoid seasonal water streaks and stay on the best rock.

Start at two lime green dots of lichen, and follow a wandering line of three bolts with a few gear placements here and there. A relatively easy but difficult to read crux is protected well by the second bolt. After reaching the right-leaning ramp, climb up and left aiming for the dihedral above. Follow the fun dihedral to the anchor.

Start on a thin, bolted flake with intermittent jugs. Then climb up a bunch of mantels to the final leaning dihedral (that actually climbs more like twin cracks) to the anchors. It is thin, but good gear protects where the bolts don't. This is a nice warm-up for the crag.
