Shitty brittle limestone smears at the start are redeemed somewhat by interesting moves through the middle. The route left me with a bad taste on the committing, slabby finishing moves.

An OK route that delivers a challenging, short crux.  The crux comes as you hand traverse the thin seam with poor feet.

The crux is at the second bolt. I can barely reach through@ 9+ . Taller people might find this .9  . Shorter people will find this at least .10. The rest of the route is fun jug hauling.

Tennish climbing on great holds leads to a deceptive crux. Suprisingly fun.

This one is sweet!  Start up the bolts just right of the obvious crack.  The line traverses right and into the crux sequence - which involves a sweet pinch and a sloppy topout.  Funky climbing continues to the anchors.  My favorite at Blacktail.  Great rock, good holds, and sweet moves.

Just above the Power Trip formation is another similar formation. It has a striking bolt line that's been there over 25 years. I'm not sure it goes free. Just left of previous mentioned bolt line is a bolted arete, Check my Brain. The route starts up easy, bolted junk. A short overhang arete leads to chains. I'm not sure why I put in this strange little climb hence the name.

Runout to the first bolt, then a short crux (stepping right helps), and then enjoyable cruising to the top.

A nice warmup that builds a little pump by the time you clip the anchors.

Sharp black knobs with vertical " bulges "

Start about 10' right of Red chili . Climb moderate rock ( gear not bolts) to the arete on the left side of the top portion of the main Lower Wall. Bolts, gear and a fixed thread lead to chains.

Great route. Well protected with continuous cruxs to a unique rest below the final crux. This is endurance climbing at it's best ( for this grade).

This route has variety including some roof moves, technical face moves, and a crack.

Just right of Wild at Heart is a broken formation with a right facing corner on it's right side. Just a few feet right of this corner is a crack line that goes to the top. This is the route.

This is the bolted line left of Power Trip. Big holds lead over a bulge into a moderate corner.

This short route is mostly moderate with a short crux.

A unique climb that tackles a limestone crack.  The rock doesn't lend itself to natural placements - so bolts provide the protection.  Some crack skills are helpful, as hand jams keep the crack in its grade.  A long pitch for Blacktail that delivers a fine pump.

An often overlooked classic. Climb through a somewhat powerful section past the first 2 bolts, 3rd bolt added, to the forth through some suspect rock. From here 'til the end, this route stays on you! Use your lightning warfare tactics to stay fresh through a pumpy lieback-esque section on an awesome rail, get to an awesome undercling, and shake out for a second. Figure out some thin moves above (don't use the tree!), clip a bolt, and dash to the anchors past an amazing limestone flake. Worthy of four stars in my book--best sport route of its grade in Jackson Hole.

This route is in the transition zone between loose rock on the left and great rock to the right. 2 cruxes and the bird poo ( the rock candy nugget) make this an unusual route. The route has a rare for Blacktail, fixed peg.

A nice nugget of good stone on an otherwise pretty chossy chunk of rock. A couple of thin moves getting to the first bolt, then fun limestone face climbing afterwards. A good warmup. Not quite as good as Red Chili, but almost. Watch a "x"ed loose block at the top.

The photo in Wes Gooch's guidebook shows the line going slightly left of where it actually does. Start just right of a black waterstreakish section of rock.

The wall 100?' left of the lower wall at Upper Blacktail Butte is called The Offspring Wall.Every route on this wall was put in ground up with hand drill by Jim Beyer- solo. This route is on the far left and is a bit loose. The rating is uncertain because a hold broke.

200' down and left (west) of the left hand side of the Offspring is a small crag (The Outer Belt) with a 6 bolt route on the left side. The route is different than typical Blacktail climbing but it's solid and good climbing.

Starts easy and ends easy. The crux is between bolt 2 and 3 ( don't go direct)

Just right of Wild at Heart is a left facing corner. Go up corner to top of scruffy buttress. Traverse right (.7) to crack or go up face then traverse (.6) right to crack. Up crack (.6) to top

The Hidden Wall is not readily visible and most climbers who have climbed at Upper Blacktail have not seen this wall. Sharp black knobs on an 80 degree wall leads to a wide ledge with multiple exits.

Fun route, very similar to Red Chili to the right. More challenging start before the ledge with a fun side-pull lie-back option above the 2nd bolt. Pretty easy after that with mostly jugs and patina crimps. Well protected with 9 bolts to rings. Originally named Log Jammin' in the 2011 book "Rock Climbing Jackson Hole & Pinedale, Wyoming" by Wesley Gooch, where it was described as being unfinished.

Fun face climbing on edges and pockets brings one to the crux, an affair involving two vertical rails.

On the far right edge of Upper Wall is a short crack up to a small roof. Continue up easy rock to top.

Boulder problem to start, then through some semi choosy rock. Clip first bolt on head wall, then crimp/pinch way up to "the hole"; pull onto scoop then through one more scoop, until final slab to drop-ins. Good rock.

Located on the far right side of Upper Upper Wall ( The small crag above Upper Wall at Upper blacktail ) . Mostly fun .7/.8 jug hauling, there is a short crux at bulge near bolt. Good warm up.
